About

Dear Visitor,

Here I present my investment philosophy, the aim of such presentation being to make you aware of source thoughts from which most of the material posted on this site comes from.

I am constantly in search of improvement in my investment philosophy; constantly on the lookout for ways to come up with criteria which would result in better and safer investment. Therefore, my investment philosophy is a dynamic one, that is, is liable to change over time. The source/seed of such changes are material I read, my own reviews of my rules for picking stocks. I cannot, therefore, say,with unchanging assurance, that my current methodology is the best one possible. All I can tell you is that this is the best I am capable of right now.

Second, let me make it clear, outright, that this is not a commercial site. I get nothing from my visitors, in terms of monetary gains; meaning you are responsible for the decisions you take for your investments, using your own money. Take this site as my ideas about investment, I do my homework and share my views with you. That is all there is to it. It is not my intention to sway your decisions in any direction. Though, I'll be more than happy to hear your views too. If you disagree, the better; let me hear your points of disagreement; lets view more angles to a particular topic. I am certainly no authority on investment, neither I consider myself one. I don't advise anyone to buy stocks on my recommendation, I only share my views.

So what is my investment philosophy. Simply put, I would call it contrarian value investment. I don't do technical analysis. I look at company financials and apply some of my rules and pick out stocks that seem solid to me and are being undervalued by the market participants. Its as simple as that. I do no forecasting, that is, I have no idea how the stock will perform in future, therefore growth investment is not what I do. All I can assume is that the investors would see the same value in the stock, that I see now, in future and take the stock price to where it rightly belong; the company in question would produce financials similar to ones being posted. Will the price follow my estimated value, that I have no idea of. Future is not my domain, past is where the data lies, that is where the calculations are done and it is hoped that the company would continue to perform similarly in future too, or better. So the idea is to buy cheap, solid, undervalued stocks and wait for market to pick up the wind to carry the stock price to the estimated target price. So I buy stocks that are on downward slide at present backed by strong fundamentals. No short term projections for me, no day trading, no trading in fact, no speculation, only long term investment in solid companies.

Stock markets are unpredictable. No can tell you, consistently,  the winning stocks (since future is unknown at the time such predictions are made). Sure, there are more hits in a bullish market, but they are still more random guesses than knowledge based predictions. If that were possible, those people (who can correctly, precisely, predict the future turn of events, with respect to stock price) would bring the markets down, by milking them dry. That has never been achieved, by anyone. Stock investment is a game of possibilities and probabilities, in an inherently chaotic, random, system. So when (and if) you ask me for winning stocks, know that I don't know; all I know is what is already known, in the form of stock price and fundamentals, posted by the company. I try to grab stocks which are low risk investment at the moment. I can't (and would not) speculate nor gamble with my money (and nor yours)! That's all!

So did I disappoint you, apologies if I did, since most of the people are looking for gurus who can tell them which stocks to buy and certainly not expecting an honest talk! Please do share your views, I am always more than happy to hear from my valued visitors!

Happy investing!

  1. Dear Rashid,
    Do Byco has an upside potential? What is its future growth?

  2. Have a look at the latest analysis for some idea;
    http://pakistan-stocks.blogspot.com/2013/07/byco-byco-petroleum-limited-company.html
    on a scale of -5 to +5 BYCO is at -3 currently.
    Now you are more interested in future prospects. The problem with future is that it is not known yet, and what is not known is probabilistic. If I project BYCO's past performance into future then things look gloomy, but it happens that sometimes a company, an entity, can maneuver a turnaround, but that cannot be predicted without inside information, to which I have no access. So sorry for disappointing you regarding BYCO's future.
